Can an MBA really accelerate your career? Yes, if you choose a program with an MBA career center that offers comprehensive support. But the right support is so much more than just a successful job search.

Comprehensive support means setting you up for the future with a strategic long-term plan, plus resources and expert advice that are available whenever you need them to build a clear job search strategy. As you consider schools, ask yourself, “How will this school help me achieve the outcomes I want?”

At Northeastern University's D'Amore-McKim School of Business, we believe an MBA should do more than help you complete a degree. It should position you for lasting career success through personalized guidance, experiential learning, employer connections, and a proven framework for securing competitive jobs after MBA graduation.

At D'Amore-McKim School of Business, career development is a core component of the student experience. Our team will help you build a clear job search strategy and position yourself for competitive roles after graduation.

MBA and career success start with strategy

Many business schools promote “career support,” but not all MBA career centers are created equal. Some offer basic guidance on job search tactics such as resumé review, interview prep, and job boards. While those resources are valuable, they are only part of the equation.

But the best career centers serve as proactive strategic partners. They help you build a comprehensive MBA career strategy, a roadmap for long-term success, aligned with your long-term aspirations, strengths, and industry opportunities.

That's the approach taken by the D'Amore-McKim Graduate Career Center.

You'll pair with a dedicated advisor as soon as you start classes. Your advisor is a sounding board and strategic partner throughout your MBA journey, supporting immediate opportunities and future growth. They ask tough questions and challenge you to consider different perspectives, so you'll be confident you're on the right track.

You'll have access to every tactic and tool you need to land a job after MBA graduation. But always within the context of a sound strategy.

I'm incredibly grateful for the support I received from the Graduate Career Center. After talking with friends in other MBA programs who didn't have access to the same level of personalized guidance, I realized just how much of an advantage our Career Center really is.

What comprehensive MBA career support looks like

When evaluating programs, ask how the career services will help refine your job search strategy to get effective results. A great MBA career center should offer comprehensive support. At D'Amore-McKim, these services will be integrated throughout your student experience:

Resume reviews, mock interviews, negotiation, networking, webinars, career portal.

The Graduate Career Center has a strong track record of helping our students land their ideal jobs after MBA graduation. For example, 90% of our 2024 Full-Time MBA cohort accepted job offers within one year of graduation, with an average salary of $97,840. They landed positions in a diverse mix of industries, including financial services, technology, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and biotech, consumer packaged goods, and consulting

Strong outcomes like those don't happen by accident. They're the result of personalized guidance, employer engagement, experience, and a disciplined job search strategy.

Experience is essential for a successful job search

Employers look for candidates who can demonstrate leadership, problem-solving abilities, and have a real business impact. Experiential learning has become a critical component of a successful post-MBA job search.

At D'Amore-McKim, experiential learning isn't optional. It's embedded throughout the MBA journey. Your career advisor can help you identify opportunities that align with your goals and strengthen your professional profile as you search for jobs after MBA graduation.

For example, one of our signature opportunities for securing jobs after MBA completion is the corporate residency for Full-Time MBA students, a paid full-time role at a leading company or startup lasting three, six, or up to 12 months.  Or, if you're pursuing the AI MBA, you can apply your knowledge through the AI Strategic Hub research practicum, working on real-world AI challenges with faculty and industry partners. Or lend your skills to a mission-driven organization or startup through our Community Impact Initiative.

Additional experiential learning opportunities:

360 Huntington Fund, AI strategic hub, Bloomberg lab, Community Impact Initiative, Global Field Study, DC residency, IDEA

Experiences like these help students develop compelling stories, stronger resumes, and practical skills that contribute directly to a more successful job search.

Northeastern provides so many opportunities for success. The presentation and research skills I learned in consulting were integral to my success during my corporate residency. The Graduate Career Center coached me through interview skills and applying for internships and full-time roles. D'Amore-McKim has given me so much encouragement, and I feel confident in my ability to succeed professionally.

Why employer partnerships matter

Career advancement often comes down to relationships. Ask about the employer networks and how you'll interact with them during your time as an MBA student. Do they offer more than just summer internships? Do they have a strong career outcomes track record?

Northeastern boasts strong ties to industry, government, nonprofits, and the entrepreneurial community. These organizations don't just hire our graduates. They get involved in curriculum conversations to make sure what students learn reflects the realities of today's business environment. They also create experiences for you to apply what you've learned to actual business challenges.

That's how you know the skills you develop at D'Amore-McKim are the ones that will drive your long-term MBA and career growth.

At D'Amore-McKim, you can benefit from our relationships with employers across industries, including:

CVS Health, DELL, Deloitte, Biogen, EY, Cigna, Accelare, Citi, Coca-Cola, P&G, GrubHub, Visa

The power of an engaged alumni network

A strong alumni network can open doors to mentorship, referrals, industry insights, and opportunities that can lead not just to a successful job search but to a long and satisfying MBA career. The Northeastern University alumni community is global, engaged, and dedicated to giving back.

When considering MBA programs, investigate:

  • Job titles of graduates
  • Industries where graduates work
  • Access to alumni
  • Mentorship programs

Choose an MBA program that invests in your future

An MBA is a significant investment of time, effort, and resources. As you compare programs, look beyond rankings and course offerings. Ask how the school will help you develop a long-term MBA career strategy that positions you not just for a successful job search, but for long-term MBA and career success.
