For the last 35 years, Emery A. Trahan has devoted his career to Northeastern's business programs and its students, as well as to the university’s mission and vision. Over those years, he has been part of the college’s notable upward trajectory and its transition from the College of Business Administration to the D’Amore-McKim School of Business.
Since 1988, he has served in various tenured and tenured-track faculty roles including the Donald F. Harding Professorship in Finance and Chair of the Finance Group. Trahan also served as Interim/Acting Dean at D'Amore-McKim from 2021-2023, Senior Associate Dean of Faculty and Research from 2014-2021, and Interim Dean in 2017.
Trahan has taught many graduate, undergraduate, and executive-level courses over his tenure with Northeastern and received several recognitions for teaching excellence. He is also published in numerous academic and practitioner journals and authored and co-authored books and books chapters, most recently a chapter in Private Equity: Opportunities and Risk titled, “Valuing Private Equity.”
He has been elected and served on several Northeastern college and university committees and task forces, including ones that shaped faculty research, policy, tenure and promotion, and program curriculum. Trahan has also served his profession in various ways throughout his career, including as a member of the CFA Society of Boston’s Board of Directors, the Vice President of Local Arrangements for the Eastern Finance Association, and as a Research Fellow and an Advisory Board member of the Center for Institutional Investment Management (CIIM) at the University at Albany. He was also an Associate Editor for the Journal of Business Research.
Trahan is both a Certified Public Accountant from the State of New York and a Chartered Financial Analyst. He received his MA and PhD in Financial Economics from The State University of New York at Albany and his BS in Accounting from The State University of New York at Plattsburgh.

Research & Teaching Interests
Trahan's current research interests include valuation, value-based management, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and applied corporate finance. He has primary teaching interests in corporate finance, valuation, financial strategy, and mergers and acquisitions, and has taught in several executive education programs and in the High Tech MBA program.

Prior to joining the D'Amore-McKim faculty in 1988, Trahan served as a senior accountant for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. and as controller for Ceramaseal, Inc.
