Marketing has been revolutionized by new technologies over the last three decades – technologies that have changed the very dimension of competition for most businesses. Rather than trying to find more customers for their products and services, today's businesses rely on ubiquitous interactivity and mass customization to find more products and services for the customers they serve. Rather than exploiting an existing business model to find whatever new value can be created from an audience of customers attracted by individual products with “unique selling propositions,” the new marketing is focused on exploring for new products or entire business models, to create additional value from each customer, one customer at a time. And while computerization and automation have dramatically streamlined traditional mass marketing processes, it is AI that offers the power to assist in the exploration process so vital to today's marketing.
