Josh Irish, DMSB'19, is known to his fans as Heath240, after his apartment at 240 Heath Street. After years of playing hip-hop venues after class, he finally got his big break while making music to keep himself busy during the pandemic. After a song went unexpectedly viral, he put the skills in marketing and brand building he learned at D'Amore-McKim to good use at the negotiating table.
“As an artist, you tend to think more on the creative side … but when it comes down to it, me and my manager we sit down and really hammer out the business stuff,” Irish says. “Without the experiences I had at Northeastern, I don't think I would be as inclined when it comes to that side of how we market this ‘startup.'”
Irish hopes to encourage artists to break genre barriers in their music and experiment with new sounds.
