A cohort of 15 Northeastern students have been accepted to attend this year's Clinton Global Initiative University, a conference highlighting young professional's creative and thought-driven solutions for some of the world's most pressing challenges. The conference is part of the Clinton Global Initiative and will be hosted by President Bill Clinton and his daughter Chelsea Clinton.
During this three-day conference, students from around the world network, attend events and present differing opinions on five focus areas: education, environment and climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health.
This is the largest number of Northeastern attendees since the Initiative began in 2007. A number of students will be representing the D'Amore-McKim School of Business through different ventures, such as VISM, an online platform connecting college students with local nonprofits in need of skills-based volunteers, and GOALS for Strong Financial Futures, a three-phase approach to helping underserved Boston area high school students.
Nadav David, DMSB'17, developed GOALS for Strong Financial Futures with his partner Miranda Beggin, DMSB'17, after his co-op in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His previous co-op focused on local youth empowerment through financial literacy, inspiring his idea to help local students as well.
“The personal goals were a huge part in grounding the students and making the program engaging,” David said of the Milwaukee organization. “You make it so it is worth it for the students, and they're not only learning something but also applying it in their own lives.”
