Bridge institutions aim to ‘leapfrog' weak public goods involved in frontier communities. Professor Jonathan Greenacre argued that firms are developing ‘bridge institutions' to provide micro-solar energy, clean drinking water, and other services to remote communities in Africa. The paper examines bridge institutions used by M-Pesa (a mobile money service in Kenya), Hello Tractor (a tractor-sharing product in Nigeria), and Bboxx (providing micro-solar energy units in Rwanda).
