Spencer Fung, a Northeastern graduate and trustee, said that companies around the world are seeking to expand their operations beyond China because of the country's trade war with the United States. But moving operations to other countries is not easy, he warned.

Lourdes Casanova

Lourdes Casanova is Senior Lecturer and Director of the Emerging Markets Institute at Cornell University's S.C. Johnson School of Management. Her research focuses on emerging market multinationals. Esglobal has recognized her as one of the 50 most influential Iberoamerican intellectuals and one of the 30 most influential Iberoamerican women intellectuals.

Among her written works: Entrepreneurship and the Finance of Innovation in Emerging Markets (co-authored in 2017); Emerging Market Multinationals Report (co-authored in 2018, 2017 and 2016); The Political Economy of an Emerging Global Power (co-authored in 2014); ‘Global Latinas: Latin America's emerging multinationals' (authored in 2009).

Casanova has also written for Latin Trade and is a regular contributor to CNN en español. She was previously at INSEAD.


Michael Enright

Michael Enright

Michael Enright is Director of Enright, Scott & Associates (ESA). Called “one of the world's reigning strategy gurus” by the Academy of International Business, Michael Enright is a leading expert on competitiveness, regional economic development, and international business strategy. He joined the University of Hong Kong as Sun Hung Kai Professor of Business Administration in 1996 after six years as a professor at the Harvard Business School, where he helped to found the modern school of competitiveness analysis. ESA specializes in strategic consulting for governments and major corporations.

Professor Enright has directed major reviews of the competitiveness of 20 different economies on five continents and has co-authored or edited ten books or monographs, including China into the Future: Understanding the World's Most Dynamic Economy, Regional Powerhouse: The Greater Pearl River Delta, and the Rise of China, among others. Enright's work has appeared in the Harvard Business Review, WorldLink, the Far Eastern Economic Review, Asian Business, Asia Inc, the South China Morning Post, and the Business Times, and has been featured in the Economist, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Asian Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Newsweek, BusinessWeek, the South China Morning Post, the Straits Times, Business Times, and many others.

Professor Enright received his A.B. (with honors), his M.B.A. (with distinction), and his Ph.D. (in Business Economics, Dean's Doctoral Fellow) from Harvard University. Earlier, Enright served as a research physicist for GTE Laboratories in the US. At Harvard, Enright served as research director for the ten-nation study of international competitiveness that culminated in Michael Porter's book, The Competitive Advantage of Nations.


Spencer Fung, CEM Board Member

Spencer Fung

Spencer Fung is Group Chief Executive Officer and is leading the 112-year-old company through its transformation to create the supply chain of the future to help the Company's customers navigate the digital economy and to improve the lives of a billion people in the supply chain. He is Li & Fung's seventh CEO since its inception in 1906. Spencer has been an Executive Director since 2008. Previously, he was the Group Chief Operating Officer with responsibility for building the company's global infrastructure. Since joining Li & Fung as a merchandiser, Spencer has been involved in all aspects of the group's operations, from liaising with factories across Asia and conducting quality control inspections to serving customers across three continents and managing acquisitions and integrations in over 20 countries. During his time as President of LF Europe, Spencer built the largest European Principal Trading business. Spencer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College and a Master of Science in Accounting and Master in Business Administration from Northeastern University. He is a US Certified Public Accountant. Born in 1973, Spencer is the eldest son of Victor Fung, Honorary Chairman of Li & Fung, and a nephew of Group Chairman, William Fung. He is the fourth generation of the Fung family to lead the business. He lives in Hong Kong. Previously, he has lived in the US, Spain, Japan, China and the UK. Spencer began his career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with PwC in Boston. He then co-founded HelloAsia.com, a Silicon Valley startup with $30 million of venture capital funding and created one of the first pan-Asian online marketing platforms. Spencer is a member of the Board of Trustees at Northeastern University. Spencer has been on CEM's board since 2009.


Janice Lee

Janice Lee is Managing Director, PCCW Media Group, in charge of the Company's media and entertainment businesses including Hong Kong's largest pay TV service Now TV and OTT entertainment services including Viu and digital music service MOOV. She spearheaded the internationalization of PCCW's media business of Viu which is now Asia's leading video streaming service in 16 markets across South East Asia, Middle East and India. Janice joined PCCW in January 2003 and was appointed Executive Vice President of TV & New Media in 2006. She was appointed Managing Director for PCCW Media Group in 2010. Janice serves as a board member of STX Entertainment, a Hollywood film and entertainment company based in US. Janice has over 25 years of experience in media and consumer businesses. She joined the CEM board in 2019.


Ravi Ramamurti

Ravi Ramamurti is University Distinguished Professor of International Business & Strategy and founding Director of the Center for Emerging Markets at Northeastern University. He studies strategy and innovation in emerging markets. He earned his BSc (Physics) from St. Stephens College (Delhi U), his MBA from IIM-Ahmedabad, and his Doctorate in Business Administration from Harvard University.

Ravi has been a visiting professor at HBS, the Wharton School, MIT-Sloan School, the Fletcher School, CEIBS-Shanghai, and IMD-Switzerland.  His eight books include three published by Cambridge University Press on the internationalization of emerging-market firms. His latest book, Reverse innovation in health care, was published by HBR Press (2018) and was a finalist for the Tata Book award.

In 2008 Ravi was elected a Fellow of the Academy of International Business in recognition of his contributions to improving our understanding of business in emerging markets. He was elected in 2007 as president of the Academy of Management's International Management Division. In 2017, The Globals, based out of London, recognized him for being the “most innovative thinker on strategy and innovation in emerging markets.” He is a six-time winner of the ADL Prize for Professor of the Year based on his excellence as a teacher. 

In 2017, his article on reverse innovation won the inaugural prize for Best Article published in Global Strategy Journal. Earlier, it won the 2012 EBS Prize for the Best article in Innovation Management. He has published in the top academic journals such as Management Science and Academy of Management Review as well as practice-oriented journals such as Harvard Business Review.

Ravi has studied or consulted with firms in more than 20 emerging economies and been a consultant to global organizations, including the Economist Group, Fulbright, USAID, UNCTAD, the World Bank's board, and the United Nations.  


Prahlad Singh

Prahlad Singh (MBA' 00) is President and Chief Operating Officer at PerkinElmer, a promotion from his appointment as Executive Vice President in September 2016. Prahlad joined the company in May 2014 as President of the Diagnostics business. Prior to that he was General Manager of GE's Women's health business. Before that, he held senior executive level roles in Strategy, Business Development, and M&A at both GE and Philips Healthcare. From 1995 to 2007, he held leadership roles of increasing responsibility at DuPont Pharmaceuticals and subsequently Bristol Myers Squibb Medical Imaging, which included managing the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions. Prahlad holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an M.B.A. from Northeastern University. His technical work resulted in several peer reviewed publications and global patents. Prahlad joined CEM's board in 2018.


Wiebe Tinga

Wiebe Tinga is the Chief Commercial Officer of Hasbro, a global toy and games company based in Pawtucket, RI. He was earlier Hasbro's President of Asia Pacific and Latin America Sales and Marketing, and prior to that served as president of Hasbro Canada from 2004-2006. From 1993-2003, Tinga served as General Manager of Hasbro Northern and Central European Region, before joining Hasbro Benelux. Wiebe Tinga has been on CEM's board since 2008. He was the keynote speaker at the 2010 Emerging Markets Symposium organized by CEM at Northeastern University in August 2010, and has spoken frequently to Professor Ramamurti's Executive MBA students during their visit to Hasbro's HQ in Rhode Island.
