Program options

Amass cutting-edge interdisciplinary skills in the burgeoning field of XR 

MS in Extended Realities students will complete a unique curriculum enhanced with a first-ever multi-college partnership that connects the College of Arts, Media and Design, Khoury College of Computer Sciences, Bouvé College of Health Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the D'Amore-McKim School of Business.

Whether you study full-time (16 months) or part-time (24 months), the MS in Extended Realities offers flexible paths to mastery. You'll select from 11 concentrations and a wide array of electives to shape your learning around your career goals.

18 required credits: The program provides a comprehensive foundation in XR, covering its history, theory, and real-world impact. Students gain experience developing and designing immersive experiences while exploring business models in the game industry. The program culminates in an experiential project focused on real-world XR challenges, adding practical experience and helping you stand out in the job market.

18 elective credits: Beyond core coursework, you'll take up to 18 elective credits in one of 11 concentrations across Northeastern's colleges. Students in Entrepreneurship or Marketing join the D'Amore-McKim School of Business to master how XR is reshaping industries, driving innovation, and creating new market opportunities.

Home college & student policies

In this interdisciplinary degree program, students are admitted to the college associated with their chosen concentration—and their degree is awarded by that college. The D'Amore-McKim School of Business is the home college for students who concentrate in either Entrepreneurship or Marketing. Students are therefore expected to adhere to all relevant D'Amore-McKim policies.
