Research and teaching interests

Shuyang Wang conducts archival research in financial accounting, with a focus on financial reporting, corporate governance, private equity, executive compensation, securities regulation and litigation, and emerging technologies such as blockchain and cryptocurrency markets. Wang's research has appeared in The Accounting ReviewJournal of Management Accounting Research, and Journal of Financial Reporting. Her papers on revenue recognition, mutual fund disclosures, blockchain audits in cryptocurrency markets, and digitalization in asset management have been presented at the AAA Annual Meeting, the FARS Midyear Meeting, the Accounting for an Ever-Changing World Conference, the MIT Asia Conference in Accounting, the New England Research Conference, and the Greater Boston Corporate Governance Workshop. Her mutual fund research was featured on Columbia Law School Blue Sky Blog and Thomson Reuters Westlaw.

Wang's teaching interests include financial accounting and data analytics. She teaches ACCT 1201: Financial Accounting and Reporting and MISM 6210: Information Visuals and Dashboards for Business.

Industry and academic experiences

Prior to joining Northeastern, Wang worked in audit and assurance at PwC and taught Data Analytics Foundations for Accountancy and Accounting Institutions and Regulation at the Gies College of Business.

She serves the profession as an ad hoc reviewer for journals including Journal of Business Finance and AccountingAdvances in Accounting, and Journal of Business Ethics, and served as FARS Northeast Regional Coordinator. Wang is a Certified Management Accountant, Tableau Desktop Specialist, and Data Analyst with Python, and a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and the American Accounting Association.
