Dr. Seamus McGovern is Part-time Lecturer in the Supply Chain & Information Management Group at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business. His academic research is focused on the application of specialized algorithms and metaheuristics to combinatorial optimization sequencing and scheduling problems in manufacturing and supply chains. Outside of academia, he has authored or co-authored over 60 technical reports during three decades as an engineer working on aviation safety, automation, and advanced air mobility for the FAA, DOD, and NASA. A former Naval officer, helicopter pilot, and aerospace engineer, he has flown 49 types and variants of helicopters, single- and multi-engine airplanes, gliders, weight-shift control aircraft, gyroplanes, and jets. Seamus earned his Ph.D. in industrial engineering from Northeastern University and is the recipient of three best-of-session paper awards, four fellowships, a national best dissertation prize, election to four honor societies, and various professional awards and military decorations. His service includes journal reviewer, Ph.D. candidate committee member, university research laboratory faculty associate, conference session chair, pre-publication book proposal reviewer, and various board, working group, and committee memberships. He has taught approximately 2,000 students at all levels in the College of Engineering and DMSB as well as Bentley University, while his four dozen academic publications have been cited more than 1,500 times.
