Richard Herron is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Finance Group at Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business. Before joining Northeastern in 2019, Herron was an associate in the Boston office of Cornerstone Research where he worked in their finance practice on a variety of matters, including securities litigation, mortgage-backed security (MBS) underwriting, and venture capital. Before joining Cornerstone Research, he taught as an Assistant Professor in the Finance Division at Babson College.

Herron holds a doctorate in finance from the Graduate Center and Baruch College of the City University of New York (CUNY). Baruch College recognized his research and teaching with various awards including the Oscar Lasdon Memorial Award for the best doctoral dissertation in finance, the Helen Mills and Gary Tannenbaum Scholarship, and the John A. Elliot Award for outstanding teaching by a doctoral candidate.

Before earning his doctorate in finance, Herron was a submarine warfare officer in the U.S. Navy. As a submariner, he completed two deployments aboard the USS Alexandria (SSN 757). After serving in Alexandria, his shore tour was as a senior instructor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the U.S. Naval Academy. Before serving in Alexandria, Richard earned a Master of Science degree in nuclear engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy where he was a Trident Scholar.

Richard’s research interests are empirical corporate finance, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, boards of directors, payout policy, and ambiguity.
