Research & Teaching Interests

McCarthy is teaching mainly in the MS in Innovation program in the areas of Innovation, Business Plans, Strategy, and Corporate Growth. His research is primarily in international business and entrepreneurship with an emphasis on Russia and other emerging markets.

Industry & Academic Experience

McCarthy is the Lead Director of Clean Harbors, Inc., an NYSE listed company for which he has been a Director since 1987. He has also consulted in the US and Europe for more than 40 companies. Early in his career, McCarthy was president and co-founder of Computer Environments Corporation and served as a director on its board, as well as the board of its sister company, Time Share Corporation. He also has served on the boards of a number of private companies and nonprofit organizations.

Services to the Profession

McCarthy is a member of the editorial board of The Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, and was formerly a board member of The Academy of Management Executive, and reviews for more than a dozen journals.
