Q:Where is your hometown?

A:I'm from Kunming, a city in Southwest China. I studied and worked in Beijing for more than 8 years.

Q:What are you studying at the D'Amore-McKim School of Business and what is your graduation year?

A:Finance Concentration. I studied corporate finance, strategy and management of information systems. I'm graduating in the summer of 2018.

Q:What do/did you do in your corporate residency? What are/were your responsibilities? How did you impact the business?

A: I'm a financial analyst in the tax team at PAREXEL International. I'm engaged in the quarterly income tax provision preparation and work closely with external reporting groups to be sure we have addressed all the tax accounting implications associated with the adoption of the accounting standard. I have utilized the logical thinking learned from school to help me identify and analyze the financial issues.

Q:What skills are you building at D'Amore-McKim that you are using in your corporate residency or will use in your future career?

A:The analytical and critical thinking skills are most useful to me. Through the training and practices in MBA courses, I was able to apply my past experiences and skills to my new field and role. These skills have strengthened, and served me well as I find my way toward my career goal.

Q:What has been the biggest take-away from working toward your MBA at Northeastern? What can you do today that you couldn't do before you started your MBA?

A:The biggest take-away is effective communication with colleagues and supervisors. I seek feedback more often than I used to, because I know that communication skills enable me to better understand and connect with people around me and allows me to build respect and resolve differences so that problem solving and creative ideas can thrive.

Q:What has been your most valuable experience so far?

A:Connecting with employers early has enabled me to learn about their expectation and allows me to focus on building relationships and taking classes of interest. I had a great time talking with executives at the luncheons and networking events where I got to know more about the company culture and industry at companies that I wanted to pursue.

Q:Why did you choose D'Amore-McKim?

A:As an international student, the corporate residency program offers me a great opportunity to make connections to employers and the career management class prepared me well to start another journey on my career path. I visited the school and talked to faculty here and I found that this was the student-oriented school what I was expecting.

Q:What would you say to a prospective student considering D'Amore-McKim for their business degree?

A:Coming to D'Amore-McKim was one of the best choices I've made. I highly recommend prospective students get this amazing experience here.

Q:Where do you see yourself in 5 – 10 years?

A:I hope to be an expert in my field of tax advisory and corporate taxation planning most likely in the healthcare industry. I will enhance my technical skills and management capabilities to take on more responsibilities in my company and help the company achieve more goals.

Q:How has D'Amore-McKim helped you to become more?

A:Overall, the MBA at D'Amore-McKim opened up opportunities to me, improved my skills, kept my mind fresh and accelerated my career.
