D'Amore-McKim School of Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation Associate Professor Samina Karim has been elected Assistant Program Chair of the Business Policy and Strategy (BPS) division of the Academy of Management.
“I am truly honored to have been elected,” said Karim. “To me, this signifies an immense responsibility for leading initiatives in our field that engage our global community.”
Karim is an expert in organization design, acquisitions and alliances, as well as the reconfiguration and redeployment of resources and activities. Her current research projects examine how firms can make better decisions about resource deployment across different tasks given the varied characteristics of both resource fungibility and task decentralization.
BPS is the second largest Academy of Management division, boasting 5,000 members of which about half are international, representing more than 80 countries.
“The Academy of Management's BPS division is theleading organization for strategy scholars and thoughtful practitioners,” said D'Amore-McKim School of Business Dean Hugh Courtney. “Samina's election to serve her colleagues in BPS over the next five years reaffirms her reputation and impact as an outstanding strategy scholar and thought leader.”
During her five-year tenure Karim will serve in four different capacities, moving on to fill the roles of program chair, chair elect, and chair. She will ultimately end her time as the outgoing chair when she will run the election for her replacement.
Karim hopes to convene even more members and continue to foster a community of sharing and learning from one another.
“I hope to create an inclusive environment for meaningful dialogues that address members' respective interests – be it research, teaching, or professional development,” said Karim.
Karim was also elected to the Board of the Consortium on Competitiveness & Cooperation (CCC) for a three-year term. The CCC was founded in 1986 to advance research that focused on the United States' competitive performance in the global economy and now hosts an annual conference where selected doctoral students receive feedback from international scholars.
