Summit: Can Indian Family Businesses Compete?

The Center for Emerging Markets at Northeastern University presented its fourth annual India Summit: Can Indian Family Businesses Compete? in India on October 27, 2025. Recognizing the central role family enterprises play across emerging economies, the summit brought together a diverse group of voices, including Indian family business leaders, academic experts in the field, young alumni representing next-generation leadership, overseas Indians managing family enterprises in Asia and the Middle East, and select family business leaders from other emerging markets. This gathering provided a unique opportunity to examine the similarities and differences in family business dynamics across emerging economies, offering insights into one of the most significant drivers of economic growth in these regions. Global Sustainability Summit

Five leading experts joined CEM on Saturday, October 5, 2024, for a thought-provoking discussion on how they are tackling the pressing sustainability challenges of today. Speakers included the Founder-CEO of an NGO that is trying to soften the impact of climate change on rural and underprivileged citizens, the leader of a climate think-tank and policy advisor in India, a senior policy maker at the World Bank, a China expert who argues that the country's innovations are making important contributions to mitigating climate change, and the Chairman of a large multinational enterprise that has been recognized for its sustainability practices. India – The Next Startup Nation? Summit

The Center for Emerging Markets held the second annual India summit: India – The Next Startup Nation?, on October 28, 2023, to explore India's vibrant startup ecosystem. The summit featured successful CEOs and founders of Indian startups, investors, policymakers, and academic experts who shared insights into India's current startup landscape and discussed how they forged their own paths to success. Attendees heard inspirational stories from founders of Indian unicorns such as Paytm and Snapdeal; founders of space exploration and healthcare startups; leaders of Indian venture capital, crowdfunding, and impact investment companies; and policymakers from the Government of India and the Gates Foundation. India-U.S. Partnership for Innovation Summit

To mark the 75th anniversary of India's independence, the Center for Emerging Markets, in collaboration with the Consul General of India in New York, organized a day-long summit on the India-U.S. Partnership for Innovation on October 14th, 2022. The Summit was inaugurated by India's ambassador to the U.S., Hon. Taranjit S. Sandhya. Speakers included ministers, senior policymakers, and CEOs/Founders of Indian and US companies.
