CEM was created in 2007 because emerging economies were expected to become important players in the global economy, and the D'Amore-McKim School of Business had significant faculty depth to investigate the economic/ business implications of that trend.

Today, emerging markets are front and center in the global economy, and CEM's faculty fellows are a larger and more diverse community with a deep commitment to studying these countries. This Newsletter provides a window into the backgrounds, interests, intellectual contributions, and international ties of CEM faculty fellows. It also shows how NU students are gaining greater exposure to emerging economies through field study courses, on-campus speakers, and international coops—all of which positions them well to thrive in the new global economy. Finally, CEM is committed to disseminating best practices to managers and policymakers, while collaborating with practitioners in a quintessentially Northeastern way to uncover “next practices.” CEM is sustained by its first-rate faculty fellows and corporate ties, and grateful for the financial support of alumni and friends
