The Leader in Experience-based Business Education

A hearty welcome to the D'Amore-McKim School of Business, and thank you for taking the time to prepare for your summer orientation! D'Amore-McKim offers a BS in Business Administration, BS in International Business, seven combined majors and various business minors. As an undergraduate business major, you will augment your degree with a concentration (or multiple concentrations) in Accounting, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Finance, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing or Supply Chain Management.

What to expect at summer orientation

We're excited to meet you during summer orientation and look forward to answering any questions you may have! At D'Amore-McKim, we support all business students through developmental advising. And you'll get to meet your academic advisor during orientation. Please be aware: Students and advisors are partners in the planning process and share the responsibility for developing an ongoing relationship. Students are expected to take on increasing levels of responsibility as they progress toward their senior year. During orientation, you'll get the chance to:

  • Review your academic options (minors, concentrations, global opportunities and more)
  • Discuss transfer credit and degree requirements
  • Ask any additional questions
  • Receive your fall schedule

Course enrollment and first-semester planning

You will be automatically enrolled in courses and any AP/IB/GCE or college level transfer credit will be taken into consideration. During the group advising session at your orientation, you will have the chance to speak with an academic advisor regarding any questions about transfer credits and course enrollment.

Several of the BSIB partner destinations offer their coursework in the language of the host country. Other destinations offer their entire curriculum in English. If you choose to study in a destination where the instruction is in a language other than English, you need to have or gain proficiency in that language. You have the option of taking language courses at Northeastern or obtaining proficiency through alternate means.

On the pre-orientation form, you will be asked to indicate interest in taking a foreign language in the fall. If you wish to enroll in a language course, a language placement is required for anyone with prior knowledge in the chosen language.

Language Placement Exams

Please indicate your placement exam score on the pre-orientation form.

French and Spanish: These placement exams can be accessed at https://cssh.northeastern.edu/wlc/requirements-and-testing/. The password to access the exam is “huskies1”. Please be sure to save your results and complete the exam prior to your orientation session.

Chinese, German, Italian, Japanese and Portuguese: Please contact the World Languages Center via phone [617-373-3131] or email [wlc@northeastern.edu] to schedule a placement exam.
