With support and guidance from a faculty advisor, honors in the discipline projects involve substantial individual research and a comprehensive analysis of the findings. Preparation of the project can focus a student's interests, provide perspective in an area of interest, support development of scholarly skills, foster creativity and independent effort, and synthesize the student's educational experiences. Within the realm of business, honors in the discipline project topics are as diverse as the interests of our students.
Qualifications
- a minimum 3.5 overall GPA
- completion of at least 80 semester hours prior to registering for the project
- Honors Program participation is not required to complete and receive the Honors in the Discipline recognition
Registering for the Project
- Student identifies a faculty advisor for the project. This advisor must tenured or tenure-track or an academic specialist who is actively engaged in research. Students are encouraged to utilize the Find Faculty Experts link to review faculty profiles, which include a list of publications and research interests.
- Once the faculty member has agreed, the student will contact their academic advisor with the intent to pursue the project and the name of the faculty advisor.
- The academic advisor will discuss with the student how the course will fit into the student's curriculum and provide information about completing the necessary registration form.
Credit Hour Requirement
- Honors in the discipline projects earn 4.0 credits.
- The credit can fulfill a concentration elective or an open elective.
- While students will likely work on their project over multiple semesters, they will be enrolled in a four-credit honors project course during one of their final three academic semesters.
- The honors project will receive a letter grade.
