Support a non-profit with your expertise

Apply what you've learned in the classroom to a position at a non-profit. These team-based experiential opportunities offer rewarding, educational work in business analytics and beyond.

During your Community Impact Initiative, you'll undertake a strategic business project with a nonprofit, meet with senior leadership, a project manager and your peers regularly, and help an organization achieve its mission. A Community Impact Initiative is the perfect opportunity to gain work experience, a diverse set of skills, and network with industry professionals.

Eligibility

If you are studying full-time on our Boston campus, you're eligible to apply for a Community Impact Initiative. If your program offers a corporate residency or graduate co-op, you're eligible only if you are not already participating in one of those opportunities. International students may participate without needing CPT authorization.

Timeline 

Community Impact Initiatives last 8-12 weeks during the Summer term, are part-time unpaid positions, and are typically completed remotely.

How to secure a Community Impact Initiative 

Your first step is to complete an application with the Graduate Career Center specifying which projects you want to pursue. Career advisors screen applications to ensure applicants meet the requirements established by the employer. Representatives from the nonprofit accept the students they feel will be a strong fit for their project and team. Some employers may invite you to an interview.

Examples of past projects 

  • Enhanced online presence for a New York City based literacy non-profit in order to boost its reputation and attract a more diverse group of volunteers and corporate donors
  • Built relationships with partner organizations to more effectively target military veterans, and their spouses, looking to transition to civilian life and for help preparing for interviews
  • Developed database management system for an organization that provides scholarships to top-performing students from low-income families in the East Africa region
