Florence Schelling, DMSB'13, will compete in the Pyeongchang Olympic Games this February as part of the Women's Swiss Ice Hockey team. As a native of Oberengstringen, Switzerland, Schelling has represented her home country in the Olympics since 2006. She is the first Northeastern University student to appear in four Olympic Games.
Schelling graduated from Northeastern as the program leader in single-season save percentage, .950 during 2011-2012 to lead the nation, minutes played, 5,878:40, and goals against average, 1.74, among many others. Schelling was named a 2012 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist and was Hockey East Player of the Year.
Schelling graduated from the D'Amore-McKim School of Business with a degree in business administration with a focus on supply chain management, marketing and management.
During the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Schelling made 28 saves during a medal-round game, helping her team, including fellow Northeastern ice hockey alumna Julia Marty, win the bronze medal. This was the first time the Switzerland Women's Hockey team made a podium appearance.
Schelling is one of four huskies who will compete in February. She joins Women's Hockey alumnae Kendall Coyne and Laura Schuler, as well as Steve Langton, DMSB'06, who is on the Olympic Men's Bobsled team.
