Timothy J. Rupert, the Golemme Administrative Chair and a professor in the Accounting Group at the D'Amore-McKim School of Business, was recently elected president-elect of the American Accounting Association (AAA). The AAA is one of the premier professional organizations in accounting academia and is home to flagship publications, including The Accounting Review and Accounting Horizons.
Rupert will serve in a number of leadership capacities over his three-year commitment. His term as president-elect begins at AAA Global Connect in Las Vegas in August 2026, when he will join the Board of Directors and Management Team, working closely with current leadership on the association's strategic direction and becoming familiar with its financial and administrative operations.
His official term as president begins in August 2027. At that time, he will chair the Board of Directors, lead the Management Team's discussions on strategic direction, and represent the AAA to domestic and international professional and educational accounting organizations. During the third year of his term, Rupert will serve as past president, contributing to key committees and providing continuity as the association advances its strategic initiatives.
“Tim is one of our outstanding faculty members,” says D'Amore-McKim Interim Dean Rajesh Aggarwal. “His election is a testament to his dedication to the accounting profession and the esteem in which he is held, an esteem echoed by all his colleagues at D'Amore-McKim. We could not be more proud of Tim and his accomplishments.”
Rupert brings extensive AAA leadership experience to the role, having previously served on the Board of Directors as director focusing on Segments. He has also served as president, vice president and secretary of the American Taxation Association and as president of the Northeast region of the AAA. He holds an honorary appointment at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
Among his many honors, Rupert has received the AAA's Outstanding Accounting Educator Award, the American Taxation Association's Ray M. Sommerfeld Outstanding Educator Award, and the Massachusetts Society of CPAs' Educator of the Year Award.
Rupert says he looks forward to helping the organization navigate a period of significant change. “The accounting academy faces a rapidly changing environment, from the increasing impact of artificial intelligence to the changes that alternative pathways to CPA certification will mean for our programs and students. I look forward to the opportunity to help the AAA address these challenges and shape the future for both the accounting academy and the broader profession.”
