Assistant Professor Razvan Lungeanu recently joined the Entrepreneurship & Innovation group at Northeastern University's D'Amore-McKim School of Business after several years as an assistant professor of Management and Organization at the Smeal College of Business at Pennsylvania State University. Lungeanu received his Ph.D. in Management and Organization from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

His research has been published in major academic journals and emphasizes behavioral perspectives on firms' choices among modes of development (e.g., alliances, M&A, internal R&D), corporate governance, and business strategy. Lungeanu examines these issues in particular in startups and newly public firms. For example, in one of his articles published in the Academy of Management Journal in 2016, Lungeanu finds that the personal expertise of individual venture capitalists who invest in a startup is particularly useful—and improves the firm's IPO outcomes—when such expertise is leveraged at the right time in the life-stage of the firm.

More recently, his forthcoming article in Organization Science considers the link between the expertise of directors sitting on the board of a newly public firm and the strategies that those firms are using in the marketplace. Lungeanu proposes that some individuals are particularly capable of thinking both broadly and deeply, and shows how such individuals are likely to be significant “movers and shakers” of firm business-level strategy.

“Interdisciplinary work defines my research,” says Lungeanu. “I typically use advances made in psychology and cognition research to examine decision-making in organizations. I have also recently engaged in a larger research project on regional patterns of entrepreneurship that uses social networks research and modeling techniques. I am looking forward to engaging with colleagues from Northeastern's Network Science Institute.”

Lungeanu regularly presents at professional conferences in his field, such as the Strategic Management Society and Academy of Management. He has also been invited to present at specialized conferences, such as the INSEAD Behavioral Governance Conference, the Winter Strategy Conference, the Sustainability Ethics and Entrepreneurship Conference, and the Behavioral Strategy Conference.
