Q: How did your corporate resident add value to Citizens?

Leveraging her background in data analytics, she enhanced our processes and data management. She demonstrated proficiency in various tools and technologies essential for analytics. She utilized SQL, a programming language, to analyze and manipulate large datasets effectively. She also employed Tableau and other data visualization tools to create insightful visual representations of data, enhancing our understanding and decision-making processes. These skills, honed through coursework at D'Amore-McKim, were instrumental in her contributions to our analytics projects.

Q: What qualities do you look for when selecting corporate resident students?

A: We prioritize critical thinking in our selection process, seeking individuals who can independently analyze problems and propose solutions. Intellectual curiosity is also valued, and we appreciate candidates who actively seek to understand our industry and organization, regardless of prior banking experience. Strong communication and presentation skills are also essential for effectively conveying findings to diverse audiences within the bank.

Q: Was your resident prepared to make an impact?

A: One defining characteristic of our last resident was her critical thinking skills, which she demonstrated by immersing herself in finance and banking to understand our processes. She proactively engaged with the team, asked insightful questions, and quickly integrated herself into our operations while displaying a strong desire to contribute meaningfully.

Q: What stands out to you about the typical Northeastern corporate resident?

A: Many of the D'Amore-McKim students have prior work experience, which equips them with practical skills and insights, enabling them to seamlessly transition into their roles and contribute immediately upon joining the team. Their diverse backgrounds and varied skill sets enrich our team dynamic, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to problem-solving. Overall, their global mindset enhances our organization's effectiveness and adaptability to evolving challenges and opportunities.

Q: Would you recommend D'Amore-McKim's corporate residency program?

A: Absolutely. I speak highly of the program and its benefits. While this was our first time participating, hiring a corporate resident proved to be immensely beneficial. If other organizations are seeking MBA-level talent who can contribute immediately and seamlessly integrate into their teams, I encourage them to consider this program.

Building a Talent Pipeline through Northeastern Corporate Residencies at Raytheon

“When you hire externally, there's always a risk. But with Northeastern residents, we already know the quality of their work and the caliber of their education. We've challenged them, pressure-tested them, and given them tough assignments over six months on corporate residency, and found out where their strengths and weaknesses are. It just makes so much sense to hire them, and it makes for a smooth transition.”

Giving back: a former corporate resident now hires residents

“The residency provides us a source of talent to hire, and it gives both the MBA student and the hiring manager the ability to get familiar with each other first to see if the relationship will be a good long-term fit. There's simply less risk for hiring a resident that we already know. This workforce development model has been a big success for my company.”
