On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, much of my focus will be on Northeastern's sixth-annual Giving Day, and I'd like to convince you why it's worthwhile for you to be part of it too. It's a day where the Northeastern community unites to support essential programs and initiatives while competing in fun challenges and celebrations.
First, let me tell you why I care so much about Giving Day. During my 30+ years of serving you and D'Amore-McKim as both an educator and administrator, I've had the honor to see this school grow and change exponentially, and I have watched our influence and impact grow as well. Giving Day is one of the best times to show my pride in our school because it can make a real difference. Other community members will make donations big and small in honor of their Northeastern pride, so giving on Giving Day makes me feel like I'm part of a powerful collective to strengthen our community. And this year, as we celebrate D'Amore-McKim's 100th Anniversary, it would be especially impactful for our community to make a statement!
D'Amore-McKim has several featured Giving Day funds to match what you may be most passionate about, including scholarship funds, student-focused diversity program funds, and funds that support research and educational centers and programs. I often get questions about the Dean's Fund, which is used to respond to school-specific emerging priorities or emergency needs. Some examples of how it has been used in the past include strategic support for students facing hardships, partnerships like the one we have with the United Negro College Fund's Lighted Pathways Program that provides students from historically Black colleges and universities with internships in Boston-area investment management firms, and various student club support efforts.
You can give to any D'Amore-McKim fund on Giving Day, and your gift will be eligible for Giving Day recognition. A small gesture goes a long way, and together, we can make a difference. Also, be sure to follow the challenges throughout the day on the Giving Day website and our D'Amore-McKim social channels to make your gift even more fun and impactful.
