About the Competition

Sanctioned by the Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education (CUIBE), the NU-CUIBE International Business Case Competition has been hosted by D’Amore-McKim School of Business since 2010 and presents an intellectually demanding opportunity to bring students from the consortium’s partner institutions together.

Teams of four students represent each participating university (must be CUIBE members) in this bracketed competition featuring 15-minute presentations and a rigorous Q&A period. The case itself is not disclosed until it is distributed to the competitors at the conclusion of the opening ceremony.

Sixteen teams comprised of four undergraduate students will compete in this bracketed competition.

Who We’re Seeking

Motivated students with a competitive spirit who enjoy a challenge and wish to be part of a meaningful and rewarding learning experience. Ideal candidates:

– Junior or Senior, preferably; but second and third-year students are also welcome. Its more a matter of skills and abilities than age.

– At least one co-op or international internship is a plus.

– Understanding of basic finance, accounting, marketing, and strategy. Upper level finance and accounting is a plus. It is not necessary for applicants to have already completed a course in strategic management. But having read and analyzed business cases is helpful.

– Ability to handle stress well and to meet tight deadlines.

– Ability to work effectively in a team under pressure.

– Willingness to work hard in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Since 2010, D’Amore-McKim School of Business has annually hosted 15 other universities from across North America in what never ceases to be a challenging and rewarding learning experience for all involved. The first NU-CUIBE International Business Case Competition was designed by Professor Ray Kinnunen, who also served as the Northeastern University team coach from 2010 through 2013. This wonderful annual tradition would not be what it is today without his guidance and expertise. Thank you, Coach K!
