Our Work
The Center for Emerging Markets operates in three distinct areas, including a robust research agenda; significant work to influence business practitioners; and educational activities designed to prepare the next generation of business leaders.
Our Faculty Fellows conduct award-winning research and organize international academic conferences and workshops with leading partner schools. CEM has supported the research of over 40 fellows through a mini-grants program and has hosted over 40 visiting scholars from across the world.
Our Nardone Family Seminar Series brings numerous scholars, thought leaders, and distinguished practitioners to share their latest insights on emerging markets.
Our twice-annual publication, Insights @ Center for Emerging Markets, synthesizes academic research on emerging markets to provide actionable recommendations for managers, policymakers, and global leaders.
CEM organizes four region-specific speaker series to disseminate cutting-edge research on India, China, and Africa to the business community. For several years, CEM organized annual symposia on timely topics related to emerging markets.
CEM provides grants to Northeastern University students to pursue innovative projects addressing pressing problems in emerging markets through the Srinivasan Family Awards for Projects in Emerging Markets.
It supports an interdisciplinary undergraduate minor in emerging markets, the student-run Emerging Markets club, and Global Summits organized by student organizations. CEM has extended scholarships to students undertaking international co-ops and field study trips in emerging economies.
Funding
CEM was launched with seed money from the Liberty Mutual Foundation, followed by a grant from the US Department of Education. In 2014, as part of Northeastern's EMPOWER Campaign, 20 Faculty Fellows pledged funds to CEM, followed by generous gifts from David R. Nardone, Venkat and Pratima Srinivasan, and Vivek and Vandana Sharma.
