The DATA Analytics Research Lab at Northeastern solves challenges presented by organizations and the natural environment. Projects encompass contemporary research, industry problems, and wider issues in the social and natural environments.

Teams

The DATA Analytics Research Lab runs every Fall and Spring semester and consists of selected graduate and undergraduate students from across the university. Teams are curated to enable interdisciplinary dynamics that are proven to yield insights of greater scope and novelty.

Projects for the Lab

The most suitable challenges are “problem-centric” with associated data that can be analyzed to explore the domain of the issue. The larger the scale and breadth of the data the greater the range of analytics tools that can be deployed to tackle the problem.

The ideal parameters for projects include:

  • Data previously accumulated and readily accessible
  • A problem that will impact the organization
  • A deliverable that can be achieved within 10 weeks.

Call for Proposals

We invite expressions of interest that provide an opportunity for teams to use analytical skills to solve high-impact problems. Direct engagement with students is a further benefit where companies can get to meet their talent pool directly and where students receive direct exposure to industry professionals. Organizations are expected to cover any costs associated with the project, but there is no fee for working with the DATA Analytics Research Lab. Send all inquiries to contact@datanu.org.

Analytics Lab Alumni

Analytics Lab alumni are invited to apply for DATA Fellow positions. Rare exceptions (for non-alumni) can be made. We welcome undergraduate and graduate students from all colleges to apply. Appointments are on semester basis and renewable until graduation.

What is a DATA Fellow?

DATA Fellows collaborate with DATA faculty leaders on running the Analytics Lab and a wide scope of academic or company projects.

While the Fellows must not reveal the corporate projects they work on, they can share their involvement in academic projects. DATA Fellows are eligible for small DATA research grants for some projects (subject to funding availability).
