{"id":1821,"date":"2018-06-17T16:54:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-17T20:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/damore-mckim.northeastern.edu\/cem\/?p=1821"},"modified":"2024-07-17T17:02:53","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T21:02:53","slug":"2018-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/damore-mckim.northeastern.edu\/cem\/news\/2018-newsletter\/","title":{"rendered":"2018 Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>CEM was launched about a decade ago, in 2007, when it collaborated with two centers at the Wharton School to organize an international conference on the new multinationals from emerging markets. Since then, CEM has organized 15 such conferences, with leading schools from around the world, leading to several influential books, articles, and special issues of journals. It now has one of the strongest faculty groups in the US on emerging markets, with a vibrant intellectual milieu. Over 150 scholars have spoken in CEM's Nardone Seminar Series in the past few years. And in keeping with Northeastern's tradition, the center strives to bridge theory and practice, taking advantage of the vast experience of its excellent Advisory Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are highlights of the past year or two:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Two more CEM faculty associates were elected Fellows of the Academy of International Business and two more faculty members were appointed University Distinguished Professors of Northeastern U.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CEM faculty associates took on senior editor roles in leading journals, such as Organization Science and Global Strategy Journal, and are represented on the<br>editorial boards of every top management journal. They were honored in many ways for their intellectual contributions to the field<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CEM launched a new India Lecture Series, with two eminent speakers in April 2017 and April 2018 and a third scheduled for October 2018.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CEM received a new pledges by alumnus Dave Nardone and two signifcant anonymous gifts (see sidebar).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CEM inducted two new members to its Advisory Board: Charles Chan, CEO of Ascendas-Singbridge, China; and Cyril Perducat, EVP of IOT and Digital Offers,<br>Schneider Electric.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CEM continued its collaboration with Cornell University's Emerging Markets Institute and launched a new initiative with INSEAD's Emerging Markets Institute<br>(Singapore); and it continues research collaborations with several top schools in the US and emerging markets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CEM began live casting and archiving major events so they can be viewed by a wider, global audience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CEM continued to engage with students, the business community, and the media on emerging markets.<br>CEM's success rests on the dedication of its faculty, benefactors, students, and corporate executives. It thanks the leadership and staff of the D'Amore-McKim School School, especially Magda Drici, for invaluable support.
