At the heart of this purpose imperative among businesses today is their urgent desire \u2013 and need \u2013 to be more sustainable in a world buffeted by increasingly palpable social and environmental upheavals. A corporate purpose is seen as a precondition for effective sustainability as many companies continue to struggle to be truly sustainable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this talk, <strong>CB Bhattacharya<\/strong>, Professor of Marketing and Professor of Organizations and Entrepreneurship at the University of Pittsburgh, explored a purpose-driven pathway to enable companies to integrate environmental and social concerns into all their business decisions. Using real world data, he showed that a transition to a more sustainable business model, via the \u201csustainability ownership experience,\u201d is a surefire way to ignite key stakeholders and employees, and provide more meaning to their jobs thereby boosting employee engagement.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>This event was part of the Nardone Family Seminar Series at the Center for Emerging Markets.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"238\" src=\"https:\/\/damore-mckim.northeastern.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2024\/12\/CB-Headshot-2022-300x238.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3286\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/damore-mckim.northeastern.edu\/cem\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2024\/12\/CB-Headshot-2022-300x238.jpg 300w, https:\/\/damore-mckim.northeastern.edu\/cem\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2024\/12\/CB-Headshot-2022.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About CB Bhattacharya<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.business.pitt.edu\/people\/cb-bhattacharya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dr. CB Bhattacharya<\/a> is Professor of Marketing, Professor of Organizations and Entrepreneurship, and founder of the Center for Sustainable Business at the Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh.&nbsp;His research and teaching focus specifically on how companies can use underleveraged \u201cintangible assets\u201d such as corporate identity, reputation, corporate social responsibility and sustainability to strengthen stakeholder relationships and drive business and societal value.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has published over 100 articles and has over 48,000 citations per Google Scholar, putting him in the top 50 most cited scholars both in sustainability and marketing.&nbsp; His latest book entitled\u202f<em>Small Actions Big Difference: Leveraging Corporate Sustainability to Drive Business and Societal Value<\/em>\u202fwas published by Routledge in 2019.\u202f He is co-author of the book\u202f<em>Leveraging Corporate Responsibility: The Stakeholder Route to Maximizing Business and Social Value<\/em>\u202fand co-editor of the book\u202f<em>Global Challenges in Responsible Business<\/em>, both published by Cambridge University Press.\u202fHe has served on the Editorial Review Boards and served as Editor of special issues of many leading publications. Prof. Bhattacharya is the founder of the Center for Sustainable Business at Pitt as well as the ESMT Sustainable Business Roundtable, a forum with more than 25 multinational members, aimed at discussing opportunities and challenges in mainstreaming sustainability practices within organizations. In 2007, he started the Stakeholder Marketing Consortium with support from the Aspen Institute.&nbsp;&nbsp;He has been named twice to <em>Business Week<\/em>'s Outstanding Faculty list.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He received his PhD in Marketing from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management and his BA from St. Stephens College, Delhi.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is often quoted in publications such as <em>Business Week<\/em>, <em>BBC, Forbes<\/em>, <em>Financial Times, Newsweek, the New York Times, The Economist and on TV stations such as Times Now, CBS, and PBS.&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Nardone Family Seminar Series<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Made possible by a gift from David R.
