Organized by University of Miami's Center for International Business Education & Research (UM CIBER) and Northeastern University's Center for Emerging Markets (NEU CEM), this conference brought together senior and junior scholars, doctoral students, and practitioners in the fields of international business and strategic management from around the world. It fostered discussion of cutting-edge topics and created opportunities for co-learning by U.S. and emergingmarket scholars. The conference theme was Capability Building and Catchup by Emerging Market MNEs (EMNEs). Unlike advanced country-MNEs, emergingmarket MNEs often expand internationally to acquire strategic assets such as technology from developed countries. They transfer these capabilities home and augment existing capabilities before attacking foreign markets, this time as more serious global contenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
