Research and Teaching Interests

Professor Boyson's primary research interest is in the area of investments with an emphasis on understanding the risk and return characteristics of hedge funds. Specifically, she is examining the evolution of managerial risk-taking behavior as well as studying persistence in performance and the determinants and implications of hedge fund fraud. Her teaching interests include investments, fixed income securities, financial institutions, and portfolio management.

Industry and Academic Experience

Prior to joining Northeastern, Professor Boyson was an Assistant Professor in the Finance Department at Purdue University in Indiana. She also spent eight years in the industry, working in public accounting, banking, and investment advising. She has been a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) for eighteen years.

Professional Services

Professor Boyson served on the Program Committee for the Financial Management Association in 2004 and 2007. She also worked as Ad Hoc referee for several journals, including the Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Economics and Business, and Pacific Basin Journal. In 2006, Professor Boyson participated as Session Chair in the European Finance Association meeting. She also served as Panelist (via telephone) for the Brown Brothers Harriman Investment Manager Business Leader Summit (Practitioner Conference) in November, 2006.
