From the desk of Co-op

  • During the Fall semester, we welcomed a group of over 80 first-time accounting co-op students. In total, we are working with approximately 200 accounting undergraduates who will be going on co-op in January 2012.
Our first time co-op students spent the semester enrolled in our “Professional Development for Cooperative Education” course, meeting employers at career fairs, attending information sessions and applying for and going on job interviews. With the holidays right around the corner, all the accounting students are hoping that they will be able to head home for the break with good news of a co-op job offer to share with their families. As of this writing, approximately 180 of our 200 students have accepted job offers!

We have found the job market for accounting co-op students to be stronger than some of the preceding years. Organizations’ hiring goals are up and new employers are joining the program, resulting in a very competitive employment picture for our students. This leads to programs that increase employer visibility on campus by presenting at Beta Alpha Psi meetings or in classes, participating in co-op events, and conducting organization specific information sessions on campus.

We held our 5th annual “CPA Firm Information Fair” in September, and were pleased to host 18 firms, as well as the MSCPA, Becker CPA Exam Review, and Northeastern’s Graduate School of Professional Accounting. Student interest in this event was strong, and over 100 Accounting students of all class years attended.

    New employers this semester include:

American Tower Argent Wealth Management Cubist Pharmaceuticals
Daigle & Assoc., LLP Flanigan, Cotillo & Mainzer Floyd Advisory, LLC
Gallagher, Flynn & Co., LLP MIT Media Lab Moody, Famiglietti & Andronico
PKF O’Connor Davies (NYC office) Prager & Fenton (NYC and LA offices) Talbots
    Wolf & Co., P.C.

We love to hear from our alums, so if your company/firm might be interested in hiring a co-op student, please contact one of us so that we can send you some information to share. We are always happy to come out and meet with people who are not familiar with the program and explain how easy it is to get involved. Our contact information is as follows:
